It must be two years exactly, Rosh Hashona, attending services at B'nai Israel. At that point in time, I was developing my own web site and didn't know what to say. There was a line in the sermon: The world is created through kindnesses. It stuck. It became the center of my web site. I also love thinking about this. It is every where you look, IF you look. A harried mother at Jewish services this morning in Greenfield, trying to entertain a pugdy little baby. I kept giving her loving looks when she would walk out with the baby, once again. I finally got to speak to her and told her that her baby was gorgeous. It stopped her in her tracks, to listen to that, to take it in, to hear that. A kindness. Easy to administer, as most kindnesses are, but meaningful to receive. I guess the kindness that I think of right now is accepting a ride to and from a medical appointment in Springfield. This was from a new friend. I hate to ask someone to wait for me there; what a drag! I can cope with asking for a ride one way, but this was both ways. She was so gracious, not only to offer, but to be calm about waiting, and then, to offer to do it again. I find this humbling, letting someone else take care of me. I am the one who likes to take care of others. Accepting help is a whole new ball game. Me? You want to take care of me? I am learning: Just say "thank you."
